Jonathan Gent, the 6th child of John Gent (b 1814) and Ann Bamber (b 1815) was born in Whittle le Woods on 6 April 1843. He was a reedmaker, like his father and married Mary Garstang (b 1843) on 29 Mar 1865 in St John’s Church, Whittle le Woods. Confusingly, his brother, our direct ancestor John Gent (b 1848) also married a Mary Garstang (b 1845).
Although Jonathan is not a direct ancestor he is of particular interest to us because his grandson, David (son of James) died on the battlefields of France, aged 20 during the First World War.
